Advantages of 1.4848 Heat-Resistant Steel Fixture

1.4848 is the most versatile general-purpose heat-resistant cast steel. It excels in applications involving air or oxidizing atmospheres, operating temperatures in the 850–1050°C range, mass-produced standardized Fixture, cost-sensitive projects, and scenarios requiring frequent repairs.
Performance Advantages
1. High-Temperature Oxidation Resistance: With a chromium content of 24–27%, 1.4848 forms a dense, stable Cr₂O₃ oxide layer on its surface; the oxide scale does not easily flake off or contaminate the workpiece. In furnaces operating continuously in oxidizing atmospheres, 1.4848 actually demonstrates superior durability against burning.
2. Resistance to Sulfidation/Sulfur-Bearing Atmospheres: The 25% chromium content provides excellent resistance to sulfidation, while the 20% nickel content stabilizes the austenite phase and inhibits sigma-phase embrittlement. In sulfur-bearing gas atmospheres, high-chromium/low-nickel alloys outperform high-nickel alloys. This offers a tangible advantage for Fixture used in gas-fired furnaces and incinerators.
3. Cost-Effectiveness: Nickel is the most expensive element in heat-resistant steels; the nickel content in 1.4848 is only about half that of 1.4849, resulting in a significant raw material cost advantage. Industry data indicates that the initial cost of high-nickel grades (such as HP-Nb) is 25–30% higher than that of HK40, and high-nickel alloys often require more specialized casting processes. For mass-produced, standardized Fixture, the savings per unit are substantial.
4. Casting and Welding Characteristics: Low nickel content results in a reduced tendency for hot cracking and segregation, as well as good casting fluidity, making it suitable for the integral casting of large, complex-shaped baskets. Repair welding can be performed using standard 25-20 welding consumables, making repairs straightforward and accessible. 5. Supply Maturity and Standardization: 1.4848 (HK40) is the most widely used general-purpose heat-resistant cast steel grade globally. It complies with multiple interchangeable standards (EN 10295, ASTM A297, GB/T 8492), ensuring a wide supplier base, easy availability of spare parts, and price transparency—practical advantages for engineering procurement.
6. Room-Temperature Strength and Toughness: Rm ≥450 MPa and elongation ≥8% (compared to ≥420 MPa and ≥4% for 1.4849). It resists deformation and fracture from bumps or impacts during handling and lifting, offering superior structural integrity.
7. A "High-Spec" Option within the Family: Although belonging to the same 25Cr-20Ni series, 1.4848 is a cast grade with higher carbon content (0.3–0.5%). Its high-temperature strength, creep resistance, and oxidation resistance significantly outperform rolled 310S/1.4845 plate—making 1.4848 castings a more durable choice than 310S for applications such as furnace bottom plates and material trays.
